…as NCAA Prioritizes Passenger Safety and Comfort
Despite the ongoing nationwide protests today, flights both domestic and international operated smoothly at some Nigerian airports.
The terminals at Lagos and Abuja airports were open for business, with adequate security measures in place and domestic operators ready to take to the skies.
However, passenger turnout was low at the Lagos airport, with the usual bustling atmosphere replaced by a sense of calm.
Vehicular movement around the airport was also light, with few people seen moving in and out of the premises of the aviation agencies.
In a statement, one of the domestic airlines announced that it would be temporarily suspending all flights for tomorrow, citing safety concerns.
The airline assured passengers that they could keep up-to-date with developments on their social media handle.
Earlier, some international airlines had sent separate letters to passengers, reassuring them that the protests would not affect their schedules into the country.
At the Abuja airport, the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, gave an update on activities.
He revealed that only two domestic airlines did not operate due to concerns about the protests.
Captain Najomo, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, stated that staff from the Consumer Protection Department and relevant personnel were on hand to provide information and comfort to passengers.
According to him, this was part of the NCAA’s Consumer Protection protocols in response to the national protests.
He commended the joint team of NCAA, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and security agencies for doing a great job of securing the airports, which are critical national assets.
He said, the Abuja airport terminals both local and international were peaceful, with security top-notch and passengers well received and processed.
