The Lagos State Government has announced tentative plans to hold its annual Easter programme, the Greater Lagos Regatta and Festival.

Addressing newsmen in Alausa Ikeja, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf said based on the confirmation of a new Corvid-19 case in the State, the Greater Lagos Regatta and Festival which was scheduled to hold between the 10th and 12th of next month (April 2020) has been tentatively put on hold.

She said the events would now hold on the slated dates subject to the successful management and containment of Corvid-19 cases in the State and the Country at large.

“Depending on how it goes, we are planning our events based on Corvid-19, if it is something we are going to just suspend for a period of time, we will and if we need to cancel for the protection of our people, we cannot shy away from the situation around us, that’s why we are saying tentatively, let’s see how the whole thing play out”

She announced that her Ministry would collaborate with the Ministry of Health to create handwashing points, provide hand sanitizers, to ensure the safety of Lagosians during and after the programme and called on interested vendors willing to take part in the Regatta and Festival to come to Alausa Ikeja to obtain exhibition forms.

Mrs Akinbile-Yusuf explained that the State Government is partnering a private Organisation to host the event which expectedly would showcase the physical and natural attributes of Lagos, the endearing and welcoming spirit of the people and the already established reputation of the State as the primary entertainment destination in Nigeria.
