NCAA Commences Training on Consumer Protection Portal
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has kicked off a two-day training session for its consumer protection officers (CPOs) and airlines’ staff representatives on the use of its soon-to-be-launched consumer protection portal.
The training, which began on Wednesday at the NCAA’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, according to a statement was declared open by Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Nigeria, Captain Chris Najomo.
Captain Najomo represented by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, emphasized that the portal, set to be launched before the end of the year, will facilitate faster and seamless resolution of passenger complaints against airlines.
He said, the portal will also ensure the on-time performance of all airlines operating in Nigeria, making it a significant step towards improving the overall passenger experience.
“This is a historic moment for the NCAA, as we are launching our first consumer protection portal”.
He added, “The building of this portal started when I was the Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, and it is a fulfillment of one of my action points for 2024, as it speaks to the ease of doing business environment we are consciously creating.”
Captain Najomo also listed other benefits of the portal to include making the process of complaints and complaints resolution easier, ensure transparency by allowing passengers to track the resolution process of their complaints in real-time.
“We don’t need to name and shame because it is a self-reporting system”.
The Assistant General Manager, Consumer Protection, Mrs. Ifueko Abdulmalik, said the portal is in line with NCAA’s automation of its processes amid reforms.
“The portal is the DG’s desire to automate the processes at NCAA in line with international standards. With automation, everything is simplified, and we will have better results in consumer complaints resolutions.”
