Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, has announced that commercial train service will commence on Monday, next week.

LAMATA Managing Director, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, made the announcement while briefing newsmen at the Marina train terminal.

Mrs Akinajo who noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu will be the first passenger at the inaugural ride on Monday, stated that any other passenger from Marina to Mile 2 will also ride with Governor Sanwo-olu.

While noting that the trains are electrically powered, the LAMATA Managing Director advised all passengers to desist from crossing the rail tracks to avoid electrocution.

Mrs Akinajo who also stated that the train service will embark on seventy six trips per day cautioned passengers from eating or drinking anything while on board with assurance of maximum security of passengers.

The LAMATA Boss hinted that the train will stop at each of the five terminals from Marina to National Theater Iganmu to Orile to Alaba Mile 2 for only ninety seconds, hence the need for passengers to be swift and punctual with train service time.

The train service is expected to convey one hundred and fifty thousand to one hundred and seventy thousand passengers a day, on fifty percent discount for now at three hundred and seventy five naira.
