The Lagos State Government says it is partnering with the Maize Farmers‘ Association of Nigeria, MAFAN, to explore the possibilities of maize production in the State.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya made this known in Lagos when she received members of the Maize Farmers‘ Association of Nigeria, MAFAN.
Ms Olusanya explained that the partnership was important to the State’s 5-Year Agricultural Roadmap particularly the reform of the red meat value chain and provide opportunities for the sourcing of silage.
She described Silage as an affordable source of feed for livestock particularly cows and that the collaboration with MAFAN was coming on the heels of her visit to the Igbodu Feedlot in Epe.
According to Ms Olusanya, in this year’s farming season, MAAN would be planting about 167,000 hectares of maize across Nigeria.
