LASEPA AND CPAN SIGN MOU TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL UNFRIENDLY AND HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS IN CLEANING OPERATIONS IN LAGOS

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA and the Cleaning Practitioners Association of Nigeria, CPAN, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, to curb the use of unfriendly substances and unprofessional conduct by cleaning practitioners in the State.
Speaking at a news Conference in Alausa, the General Manager, LASEPA, Dr Dolapo Fasawe said the collaboration with enable cleaning operators work directly with the state government to eliminate quacks among them.

While noting that only trained and accredited members of CPAN would be registered, Dr Fasawe promised continuous training, capacity building, monitoring and enforcement to achieve a pollution free environment in Lagos.
“So we admonish the general public to read through our laws and try and align with the vision and the mission of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu to make Lagos a liveable city, to make Lagos a smart city, to make Lagos a climate friendly city and to make pollution from cleaning a thing of the past, it is possible if we join hands together and I wish this alliance good luck and strength”
Dr Fasawe advised residents to always use only certified, accredited and registered cleaning agents with the Agency in their homes, offices and recreation centres to avoid use of corrosive and hazardous chemicals which are poisonous to human, animals and properties.
On his part, the President of CPAN, Dr. Tunde Ayeye, advocated aggressive sensitization and awareness to enlighten practitioners and residents as the association partners LASEPA to sanitize the cleaning sector to ensure professionalism, standardize and regulate the environment.
“And the idea is that working with LASEPA, LASEPA achieves parts of its objective why it was set up not only to protect the environment but to ensure the environment is safe, and this is where we come in, in this collaboration, to ensure safety to the people that we serve, safety of our agents and our operatives and safety of the environment in ensuring the use of proper environmental friendly chemicals across all our operations”
The President of the Cleaning operators maintained that the collaboration would reduce the release of hazardous chemicals into the ecosystem and improve the wellbeing of all residents.
