LOW TURNOUT MARS LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION IN. IKORODU

Some polling units in the Ikorodu division of Lagos witnessed low turnout of voters today.
Our Correspondent Yemisi Dada who monitored the situation around the ancient town reports that as at noon only twelve people have cast their vote at the 001 unit of Isele ward out of one thousand two hundred and twelve registered voters.
The situation was same at the polling unit 005 and 006 of the Bode one central at Benson areas as only eight people have cast their votes out of over two thousand registered voters, the case was not different at polling unit 35, 36 and 009 at the Sabo area of Ikorodu.
Some of the community leaders attributed the voter’s apathy on the economic challenges in the country even as some people on ground refused to vote saying it amount to nothing as they alleged the ruling party of imposition of candidates.
Some of the LASIEC presiding Officers were hopeful that more people will turn out before the end of the exercise.
Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote at unit 2 in Ibeshe, the Federal House of Representatives member for Ikorodu constituency two, Mr Babajimi Benson, who expressed satisfaction that over thirty percent of the Councillorship candidates were female however decried the low turnout of voters at the local government election.
Voting is still ongoing on some polling units as security personnel were sighted on all polling units visited.
The exercise is expected to end at three o’clock in the after while counting of ballot papers wi commence immediately.
