NGOs GATHER DATA ON COVID SPENDINGS

Two Non-governmental Organisations, the Human Environmental and Development Agenda and Women Advocates Research and Documentation have begun gathering data to acertain how the palliative and intervention funds for Covid-19 were administered.

They said that monetary donations to curb the disease stood at over forty billion Naira excluding food and other items.

In a statement, they alleged that there was heavy spending of the money without a framework at both the Federal and state levels to ensure accountability and transparency

The statement notes that there was reported anomalies in the distribution of relief packages meant to give succour to indigent citizens.

It also pointed to questionable issues surrounding hazard allowance and the general wellbeing of health workers at the battle line of treating infected patients.

Covid-19 made its debut in the country on February 27th when an Italian living in the country returned from Milan.

Between then and now, the country has recorded over five hundred cases.
