PRESIDENT BUHARI CELEBRATES NIGERIA AT 62 IN ABUJA, CALLS ON ASUU TO SHEATH THEIR SWORD

It was a colourful parade at the Eagle Square in Abuja, as President Muhammad Buhari and other top government functionaries gathered to celebrate the nation’s 62nd independence anniversary.
There was march past by different paramilitary formations, students and voluntary Organisations.
Earlier in a live broadcast, President Muhammadu Buhari re-iterated the call on members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU to return to the classroom, with an assurance that government would address contending issues within the limits of the scarce resources available.
He pointed out that one of the areas where the current administration has made significant progress was in eradication of corruption in all facets of national development.
The President noted that the social intervention programmes including N-Power, trader-moni, market moni, subsidized loans, business grants and Conditional Cash Transfers have been spread too the nook and cranny of the country.
He expressed the desire to see more female and youth participation in the forth-coming electoral cycle and implored all aspirants to conduct issues-based campaigns devoid of hate speeches and other divisive tendencies.
President Buhari who explained that reforms in the public sector were yielding results especially in the delivery of services, urged the general public to demand for citizen-centred services from the relevant authorities.
