The Chairman of the Board, Professor Mbang Femi- Oyewo

The Board of Fellows, BOF, of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria is set to take the campaign against drug abuse to the nooks and crannies of the country.

It plans to buy six buses, one for each geopolitical zone to use for the campaign against the menace, especially in primary and secondary schools.

The Chairman of the Board, Professor Mbang Femi- Oyewo announce this in Lagos ahead of BOF Mid-Year Meeting and Public Lecture scheduled for next week in Lagos.

She noted that the menace of drug abuse in the country has reached an alarming magnitude.

Professor Mbang Femi-Oyewo canvassed for the inclusion of drug abuse education in the curriculum of primary and secondary schools.

She said that the Board would also launch a one hundred million Naira Endowment fund to raise the standard of pharmacy education in the country.

On the Covid-19 pandemic, she said the virus came with a bang taking the world by surprise, describing it as a public health emergency.

According to her, the suddenness of the pandemic led to a pharmaceutical emergency as all pharmaceutical companies were up in hands researching for a cure.

Professor Femi-Oyewo however expressed happiness that vaccines are now available and urged all Nigerians to ensure they get vaccinated.

She appreciated the government for making the vaccines available.

The Public Lecture is entitled ” National Development and Healthcare System – Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic.”

It will be delivered by the Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha will chair the event.
