Boost for Local Businesses: Nigeria Orders Foreign Airlines to Use Local Caterers

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has issued a directive to foreign airlines operating in the country to patronize local caterers for on-board meals.

According to a letter signed by Hassan Ejibunu, Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the directive takes effect from January 1, 2025. 

The letter, dated October 15, 2024, was addressed to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The letter read, “I am directed by the Honourable Minister of Aviation to convey to you his decision to mandate all out-bound flights from Nigeria, especially foreign airlines to patronize local caterers for on-board meals,” the ministry said.

“Consequently, you are hereby directed to convey the decision to all foreign airlines for strict compliance beginning from 1st of January, 2025.”

The decision is aimed at promoting local businesses and supporting the country’s economy.

The NCAA has been instructed to convey the decision to all foreign airlines and ensure strict compliance beginning from January 1, 2025.
