Cabin Crew Essential to Passenger Safety and Comfort, Continuous Training Vital… ADGCA 

The Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, has praised the crucial role cabin crew play in ensuring the safety and comfort of air travelers. 

In his opening remarks at the the 7th edition of the Cabin Crew Fair over the weekend, organized by Mamaj Aviation Consult, with the theme: “The Cabin Crew profession: The role of Aeromedical”, Captain Najomo, stressed the multifaceted responsibilities of cabin crew, including safety checks, emergency procedures, security compliance, and customer service.

The Cabin Crew Fair, brings together industry experts and stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in aviation safety and share best practices.

Captain Najomo said, the importance of continuous training and professional development cannot be overemphasized, stating that safety is not a destination, but a journey that requires ongoing effort. 

He harped on the need for continued collaboration to elevate the standards of aviation safety and service.

While commending Ms. Joy Ogbebo of MamaJ Aviation for organizing the fair, he assured attendees of NCAA’s support for their efforts.

Earlier in her, opening remarks, Ms. Joy Ogbebo, MD Mamaj Aviation Consult, stated that, cabin crew members are not just flight attendants, but professionals who require continuous training and education to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

She explained that cabin crew members are not just professionals who serve tea and coffee, but are well-rounded and well-grounded individuals who prioritize passenger safety and comfort.

Ms. Ogbebo shared a personal anecdote about a cabin crew member who was declared unfit for medical reasons, listing the challenges faced by aspiring cabin crew members with health issues. 

She noted the importance of medical clearance and the role of Aeromedical in ensuring the fitness of cabin crew members.

Ms. Ogbebo also read a piece by Yetunde Femi Oluanjo, which aptly described the role of a flight attendant. 

The fair featured a side session on the role of Aeromedical in the cabin crew profession, providing insights into the medical requirements for cabin crew members. 

The session aimed to educate aspiring cabin crew members on the medical clearance process and the importance of being medically fit for the profession.

Another piece as featured by Ms. Ogbebo, showcased the importance of empathy and understanding from passengers and the significance of treating cabin crew members with kindness and respect, as they work tirelessly to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

Participants at the event in an interview said, the fair provides a platform for cabin crew to interact with other sectors of the industry, share experiences, and learn from each other’s best practices. 

“It also offers an opportunity for industry experts to discuss the latest developments in aviation safety and collaborate on more effective ways of conducting regulatory functions”.

While others described it as a testament to the industry’s commitment to prioritizing safety and providing exceptional customer service. 

“As the aviation industry continues to evolve, events like this fair are crucial in fostering a culture of safety, security, and excellence”.
