The Catholic Archdiocese of LAGOS has begun investigation into an alleged hate speech made by one of her priests , the Reverend Father James Anelu against the Igbos .

Father James who is the priest- in -charge of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewu-Owa, Ikorodu, was reported to have banned Igbo songs and choruses in his parish , on the grounds that the Igbos were dominating other people in the church.

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos , the most Reverend Adewale Martins in a letter , directed Fr. James to proceed on an indefinite leave with effect from today, to allow for a thorough investigation of all matters relating to his ministry in the parish .

Archbishop Martins said the utterances of the priest were unacceptable as they do not represent the Catholic Church’s position on common brotherhood of people of all tribes and religions.

He urged all the faithful to hold on to the faith and continue in worship of God as one big family united by language, culture and race.
