COLLAPSED BUILDING UPDATE…. Rescue operation concluded

Rescue operation at the site of collapse building at Akanbi street in Onike, Yaba area of Lagos has been concluded.

This is after the body of a student who was on industrial training was recovered from the rubble.

Officials of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, who refused speak with our Correspondent were seen this morning taking samples as investigation on the cause of the collapse continues.

Residents are still shocked by collapse of the three storey which according to them had reached finishing stage

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos, Dr. Idris Salako had stated that “preliminary findings indicated that the site had been sealed-off twice by the Lagos State Building Control Agency in 2021 for non-compliance with Building Regulations, after which the site was abandoned. but the d eveloper later broke Government Seal, and re-commenced construction without official authorisation”.

According the the Zonal office of National Emergency Management Agency NEMA), five bodies were recovered from the rubble.

Lagos State Government has directed the prosecution of the developer of the three-storey building .
