Empowerment of the Girl Child emphasised at a book Launch in Lagos

Parents and guardians have been encouraged to educate, train, and empower the girl child to enable her make meaningful contributions to the society.

The Director, Lagos Operations of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi gave the admonition at the unveiling of a book Launch titled “Being a Good Girl is Not Good Enough” written by FRCN staff member Mrs. Oge Ugwu to commemorate her birthday in Lagos.

Mrs. Owoyemi noted that developing the girl child required deliberate efforts which must be done with ulmost care and determination.

“They should be given the opportunity to be able to express themselves so that they will be able to fulfill their potential in life.

” The girl child makes a lot of changes in the world. God has done a great thing in giving us girls and without the girl, the society, the nation is not complete.

“When she’s educated? She’s characterised as being kind, being confident, she’s focused, she’s trustworthy. She’s honest. She’s intelligent, passionate, with positive attitude.

So, we must intentionally engage them so that they will be able to fulfill the purpose of God for their lives”, she said.

Mrs. Owoyemi also debunked the stereotype of girls being confined to the kitchen, stating that female children are born leaders who can achieve great things.

The General Manager of Metro FM 97.7, Mrs Ifeoma Okpala, congratulated Mrs. Ugwu on her book and praised her for being a proactive and dedicated employee.

” She is a dedicated member of staff of Metro FM, very proactive, and dedicated to her duties . That we are launching her book today calls for celebration. I congratulate her”.

The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Adeyemi Ibironke, stressed the importance of raising children well, citing the positive impact it has on their wellbeing and ability to resist negative influence from bad friends, especially on social media.

” I really want to appreciate ,celebrate, and applaud the author of this book today for picking up the slack of society, to make sure that no child is left behind”, he stated

Mrs. Oge Ugwu expressed gratitude to God and her guests who traveled from far and near to celebrate with her.

She felt uplifted to mark the occasion in good health, adding that her greatest accomplishment in life was to positively impact the lives of children, through mentorship to become responsible citizens.

” I run a mentorship blog for young girls. Mature singles. So I’m not doing it alone. I have a couple of other people I do run the mentorship group with. So we came to realize that most of the girls in the group are having issues.

I love children, I’m crazy about them. So any opportunity I get to impact their life I don’t waste it”, she submitted.

Mrs. Ugwu’s colleagues at the FRCN commended her for her efforts in writing the book and wished her many years of God’s blessings.

The event was attended by fans, friends, and colleagues of the celebrant, including former General Managers of Metro FM Mr. Seyi Martins, Ms. Cordelia Okpei, and former General Manager of Radio One 103.5 FM Mrs. Funke Treasure.
