FG reiterates commitment to youth empowerment

The Federal Government remain committed to addressing unemployment and reduce poverty in the country.

Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Farouk stated this at the closing ceremony of N-Skills Training in, Lagos

The programme under the National Social Investment Programme,
targets marginalised and disadvantaged population with primary or no-formal education.

N- skills Smart Phones Repair training was designed to adopt the standardization approach using the informal Apprenticeship System delivered by Master Crafts Persons and the formal training system through the Community Skills Development Centres

According to the Minister, the informal skills development pathway is adopted at the pilot stage to bridge the gap in demand for standard and market relevant skills.

The Minister who was represented by the Director, Human Resource in the Ministry, Mr. Tokunbo Rufai said the programme is intended to improve the lives of the poor, as well as other less priviycitizens

She said “The programme is basically to make sure that our youths are empowered, and to become gainfully employed and later on to employ others”

In a welcome address, the State Coordinator of the project, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke who pointed that unemployment was a pandemic, however said efforts of the federal government at addressing the global concern is commendable.

“Unemployment is a pandemic but the special thing is the attention government chose in addressing the global challenge. The Federal Government must be commended because N-Skills is unmatched in Africa” She stated

Contributing the Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Mr. Obafemi Omokungbe stated that such programmes will help curb unemployment, and contribute to the economic development drive.

“It’s a good avenue to keep the young people off the street, they will also employ other, so I see it is a train the trainer project”He added

Some of the participants also expressed confidence that the skill acquired will help them not only be self reliant, but also employers of labor

Start up kits were presented to the beneficiary of the scheme, while the best student was also presented a cash gift.
