NAFSA Calls for Implementation of Safety Recommendations to Prevent Aircraft Incidents

The Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA) has expressed concern over the recent spate of aircraft excursions in Lagos.

During a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Capt. Alex Badeh (Jnr) in Abuja, NAFSA President Comrade Sunday Ugbeikwu highlighted the alarming frequency of runway excursions involving two aircraft in Lagos.

According to Ugbeikwu, in a statement, the close interval between these incidents is a serious cause for concern for firefighters.

He also mentioned another similar incident in Abuja over a week ago involving Azman Air B737, although the nature of the emergency was different from those in Lagos.

Comrade Ugbeikwu emphasized that it is high time the safety recommendations issued by the NSIB were implemented, as the frequent rate of aircraft incidents poses a danger to the aviation sector.

He urged those responsible for compliance to implement the safety recommendations to prevent further incidents.

Responding, Captain Badeh assured that the NSIB will continue to do its job diligently and collaborate with NAFSA to ensure safety is upheld.

He encouraged NAFSA to engage with regulators, including the NCAA and other aviation agencies, to implement the safety recommendations.

The NSIB boss believed that timely and appropriate implementation would lead to better results.

Capt. Badeh also commended the firefighters for their response to the Dana Air incident in Lagos, although the crew stated that an emergency was not declared
