NDLEA Intercepts Lagos Businessman with 88 Wraps of Cocaine Bound for Vietnam

A Vietnam-bound businessman, Paul Okwuy Mbadugha, has been apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after testing positive for cocaine ingestion.

The 54-year-old suspect was intercepted at the boarding gate on Monday, August 12, 2024, during the outward clearance for Qatar Airways flight QR 1432 to Hanoi, Vietnam, via Doha.

Following four days under excretion observation, the auapect expelled a total of 88 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.710 kilograms.

In a statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said, Mbadugha, a Lagos-based businessman, claimed that the cocaine pellets were given to him by a friend in the Isolo area of Lagos State for delivery in Vietnam and promised a fee of $2,000 for the illicit courier job.

In a related development, NDLEA officers at the export shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted a shipment of 800 grams of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed within packages of noodles destined for Congo.

A follow-up operation at Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, led to the arrest of the sender, Nnamani Sunday Sunny, a dealer in GSM handsets.

According to the statement, a large consignment of Loud imported from Canada was recovered at Lagos airport, as NDLEA operatives arrested a suspect, Desalu Taophic Temitope, who arrived on an Air France flight with six suitcases.

During a joint examination by security agencies at the arrival hall, 65.80 kilograms of the psychoactive substance were discovered in four of the six suitcases.

In his statement, the suspect disclosed that he and an accomplice, who remains at large, were promised $10,000 for successfully delivering the shipment in Lagos.
