The Nigerian government has kicked off plans in revamping its airport development structure with the approval of a review process by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo.
As part of this process, the Munich International, Germany has partnered with the Nigerian counterpart, F.C.I International, to conduct a technical workshop aimed at laying the foundation for the implementation of masterplans in Nigerian airports.
The workshop, which took place recently in Abuja, was attended by representatives from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), all aviation agencies, and some state airports.
The event was led by Bünck Olaf, a senior consultant with Munich Airport International Germany, who has supervised over 13 global airport masterplan processes.
According to the coordinator of the program, Mr. Fortune Idu, the workshop aimed to increase awareness of the relevance, application, and implementation process of airport master planning and prepare a well-informed group to become full custodians of the master plan when it is developed.
The report generated from the workshop will support and guide the upcoming master planning process.
In his keynote presentation, Mr. Keyamo represented by the permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, emphasized that the implementation of masterplans will be mandatory for Nigerian airports, and adherence to the plans will be monitored by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
He also highlighted the administration’s commitment to entrenching an enduring aviation development process as part of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Capt Chris Najomo, charged participants to be fully involved in the process, stating that this will make aviation development more sustainable
