Notorious Drug Trafficker Arrested Again at Lagos Airport, Despite Previous Conviction

A notorious drug trafficker, Christian Ifeanyi Ogbuji, has been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. 

According to the spokesman, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, this marks his second arrest in less than a year, despite facing a previous conviction for drug possession.

As contained in a statement, Ogbuji was initially arrested in May 2023 for ingesting 93 pellets of cocaine and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years in prison or a fine of three million Naira. 

Mr. Babafemi said, despite paying the fine and being released, he appears to have returned to his criminal activities.

In his latest arrest, Ogbuji was caught attempting to smuggle 817 wraps of cocaine, weighing a total of 19.40 kilograms, the drugs, with an estimated street value of over four billion Naira, were concealed in a backpack hidden within his luggage.

According to the NDLEA, Ogbuji is a key figure in a drug cartel operating between Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and other West African countries.
