Radio Nigeria pledges support to NGO on prisons decongestion

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, has pledged its support towards efforts aimed at addressing congestion of Correctional centres in the country.

The Director, Lagos Operations of FRCN, Mrs. Bola Owoyemi, made the pledge when an NGO, known as Prisons Rehabilitation and Law Abiding Organisation International, PRALARG, paid her a coutesy visit at the Broadcasting house Ikoyi.

She expressed concern at some reported cases of anomalies being commited within the corrections centers across the country which might make the inmates worse than what they were before being confined at the centers.

According to her, the issue of congestion, delayed justice for inmates and exposure to more criminal activities are some of the issues that call for concern in the nation’s Correctional centers.

In his response, the State Coordinator of Prisons Rehabilitation and Law Abiding Organisation International, PRALARG, Sunday Alade, who led his team on the visit reeled out some major activities his organisation had been involved in to better the lots of those at in correctional centers.

He said some of the interventions of the NGO, include organising lectures and providing legal support for inmates that needed lawyers to defend them in the law court.

He stressed that the NGO also organised talks for youths in the society on the need to avoid getting involved in various forms of crime, including drug abuse.

Mr Alade said the NGO had the mandate to defend the vulnerable and less privileged members of the society from abuses.

He thanked the management of FRCN, Lagos operations for the warm reception, while appealling to the Corporation to support the humanitarian course of the NGO through adequate publicity.

Other top management staff of FRCN present at event include the General Manager of Metro FM, Mrs Ifeoma Okpala, her Radio One counterpart, Mr Korede Ogunbunmi, the Deputy Director, New Media, Mrs Julie Ekong and other top Management Staff of the Organisation.

High point of the event was presentation of a souvenir to the Director, FRCN Lagos Operations, Mrs. Bola Owoyemi by the Leader of the Team.
