Lagos to Decommission Olusosun Dumpsite by 2026

The Lagos State Government says it has put measures in place to tackle flooding and to make the environment better for everyone, just as it has revealed plans to improve waste disposal.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, who stated this at a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja, said there was ongoing desilting of water channels and removing of all structures blocking them.

Mr Wahab noted that what the state had for now were flash floods which did not last more than thirty minutes after a rainfall, and called on the people to be responsible for their immediate environment.

On the developer of over eighty apartments under the Osborne Bridge in Ikoyi, the Commissioner said a manhunt had commenced for him and that it was a matter of time before he would be arrested and prosecuted.

On waste disposal, the Commissioner said the famous Olusosun dumpsite on the outskirts of the state capital, Ikeja, would be decommissioned within two years and the place would be transformed.

Mr Wahab, who said the state government would not rest until people imbibe better environmental practices, assured the residents that the ministry would continue to remove squatters under the bridges in the state.
