Lagos Warns Against Attacks on CBD Officials, Prosecutes Three Offenders

The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to residents against assaulting law enforcement officers, particularly those under the Central Business District (CBD), vowing that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mrs. Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, gave the warning on Thursday during the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja.

She revealed that three individuals had already been prosecuted for attacking CBD officers while they were carrying out their official duties. According to her, the state government will not tolerate acts of aggression toward its officials.

Mrs. Olumegbon-Lawal announced that the Lagos Island and Ikeja CBDs are now fully open for business activities. She appealed to traders and other stakeholders to take responsibility for public infrastructure in their areas, protect them from vandalism, and obey all traffic regulations.

“In the period under review, a total of 926 vehicles and 33 tricycles were impounded for various traffic offences ranging from illegal parking to one-way driving and obstruction of traffic,” she said.

The Special Adviser also cautioned against street trading within the CBD, stating that any confiscated goods will not be released.

In a show of internal accountability, she revealed that five CBD officers are currently undergoing disciplinary action for gross misconduct to serve as a deterrent to others.

Mrs. Olumegbon-Lawal reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring orderliness, safety, and the protection of infrastructure within the commercial hubs of Lagos.
