LaSG to Increase Monthly Pension of Retired Staff

The Lagos State Government says it will inaugurate a committee that will look into the plight of pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

In a meeting with the pensioners at the Government House in Alausa Ikeja last night, the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat in a statement, said the committee will include the Commissioner for Establishments, Head of Service, Director General, Lagos State Pension Commission, and representatives of the Pensioners Union.

According to him, “There is need for the state government to show a human face for the pensioners especially the monthly pension, where a retired director earns seventy thousand monthly”.

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu at the parley, Dr. Hamzat promised that the report of the committee would be implemented.

The State Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro advised that the state government should devise a way to help pensioners, as the law on the Contributory Pension Scheme has impacted them negatively.

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, Lagos State Council, Mr Michael Omisande pleaded with Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu to implement pension increases for CPS Pensioners who worked under the Defined Benefits Scheme, DBS, before transiting to CPS in 2007.
