Palliative work is to commence this weekend on failing expansion joints on the Kara, Arepo and Magboro Bridges along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Engineer Olukorede Kesha, stated this while reacting to the recent lone accident involving an eighteen seater Commercial bus which summersulted on the Expansion Joint at Arepo Bus Stop, resulting in severe injuries of some of the passengers.
Engineer Kesha who sympathised with victims, said a contractor had been directed to immediately carry out the palliatives, while the process for award of a major work is ongoing.
She ascribed the damaged expansion joints of the bridges to activities of vandals, with a call on the public to take responsibility of protecting public infrastructure.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos also advised drivers to observe speed limits on various highways and highways.
