The Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Princess Surah Animashaun, has expressed deep sorrow following the fatal shooting of a young boy, Michael, allegedly by a member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Mr. Agbomeji Idowu, in the early hours of Monday.
In a heartfelt statement issued shortly after the incident, the council chair described the tragedy as both shocking and deeply painful.
“As a mother and a public servant, I am devastated by this tragic event,” Animashaun said.
“The pain of losing a child, especially in such a sudden and violent manner, is unimaginable. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this difficult time.”
Princess Animashaun assured residents that law enforcement agencies have launched a full investigation and pledged the local government’s support in the pursuit of justice. She urged the people of Epe to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
“I strongly urge all sons and daughters of Epe to resist the urge to take the law into their own hands. The authorities are actively handling the matter, and we must let them do their work,” she said.
The Chairman also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and inciting narratives that could worsen tensions in the community.
“This is not the time for propaganda or false claims. We must stay united, vigilant, and focused on the truth. Our community stands for peace and mutual respect, and we must not allow this tragedy to erode those values.”
She emphasized that her office is in close contact with security agencies and is monitoring developments closely. The local government, she added, is committed to ensuring full accountability.
“As your Chairman, I want to reassure the people of Epe that justice will be diligently pursued. We will continue to follow up until a fair resolution is reached,” she stated.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and concern throughout Epe, with many residents echoing Princess Animashaun’s appeal for peace and justice.
As investigations continue, authorities have yet to release further details about the circumstances of the shooting or the suspect. Funeral arrangements for the deceased have not yet been announced.
