President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the release of ₦2 billion for the relocation and construction of new homes for victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this during a visit to Mokwa, where he led a high-powered federal government delegation to assess the situation and sympathize with the affected communities.
Speaking during the visit, Vice President Shettima explained that President Tinubu had specifically instructed him to be physically present in the town to evaluate the damage and provide federal support.
He emphasized that the relocation of the victims to a safer area is essential to prevent a recurrence of the disaster.
Shettima also assured the community that the Federal Government will intervene in all issues raised during the visit, including the reconstruction of four key bridges destroyed by the flood.
He noted that all planned interventions would be executed in collaboration with the Niger State Government.
On the ongoing distribution of relief materials, the Vice President encouraged residents to appoint trusted members of their communities to oversee and ensure that the aid reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its swift response following the disaster.
The Vice President later flagged off the distribution of relief items, including grains, mattresses, and other essentials, to support displaced persons.
