As Muslims in Lagos and beyond prepare to mark Eid-el-Kabir, the Lagos State Government has extended warm greetings to the faithful and assured residents of robust traffic management measures to ensure smooth vehicular movement during the celebrations.
In a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the agency reaffirmed its readiness to manage the anticipated surge in road traffic during the festive period.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said a comprehensive traffic control plan has been activated, involving the deployment of officers to critical routes, traffic hotspots, and known congestion points across Lagos.
“Operatives have been strategically stationed at major intersections with necessary tools, including towing vehicles and rapid-response units, to swiftly address any traffic disruptions,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, against unlawful acts such as illegal parking, unauthorized loading and offloading, and driving against traffic (one-way). He emphasized that offenders would face immediate penalties, including vehicle impoundment and prosecution before the Lagos State Mobile Court.
Bakare-Oki added that frontline personnel are adequately equipped with weather-resistant gear to maintain uninterrupted operations, regardless of rain or other adverse weather conditions.
Urging road users to demonstrate patience, discipline, and respect for traffic laws, he said, “We call on all residents to be law-abiding, cooperate with our officers, and promote a safe and peaceful traffic environment that reflects the spirit of Eid.”
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to proactive traffic enforcement, public safety, and quality service delivery throughout the Sallah season and beyond.
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration typically witnesses an increase in movement across Lagos. LASTMA’s proactive traffic strategy is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to maintain safety and order during major religious and public holidays.
