Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), emphasizing the importance of policy direction and strategic oversight in strengthening the maritime sector.
Speaking at the event, Oyetola said the inauguration marked a critical step in reinforcing governance within maritime institutions and positioning the sector for greater national impact.
He clarified that the Board is expected to provide high-level policy guidance and supervision in line with government directives, without interfering in day-to-day management operations.
“Under Section 2 of the NPA Act, the Board holds key policy roles, especially in staffing matters and budget formulation, through its Staff and Establishment Committee and Finance Committee,” he explained.
He stressed that operational decisions and daily execution remain the sole responsibility of the NPA Managing Director and the executive team, urging cooperation between both arms.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olufemi Oloruntola, charged the Board to raise the Authority’s standards and drive sustainable growth in the maritime sector.
Chairman of the Board, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the appointment and pledged the Board’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.
