Voting has officially ended in several parts of Lagos State, as the local government election transitions into the vote-counting stage.
Ikorodu North LCDA – Ward AIn Ward A of Ikorodu North, which comprises 80 polling units, voting ended after a last-minute surge of residents trooping out just before the 3:00 p.m. deadline.
Some community leaders appealed to LASIEC officials to extend voting by an hour to accommodate the late turnout.
Despite the appeal, voting concluded on schedule and counting is now underway.
Observers described the process as peaceful, though voter turnout was notably lower than in past elections.
Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA – Ward C & Abesan Estate
In Ward C of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Government, which has 45 polling units, vote sorting and counting began immediately after polls closed.
A similar situation was observed in Abesan Estate, where all polling units had commenced counting.
Some residents, however, lamented the poor turnout, attributing the voter apathy to disillusionment with elected officials at the grassroots level.
“People don’t trust that their votes matter at this level. Most feel abandoned,” a resident told Radio Nigeria.
Ikotun-Idimu Axis (Governor’s Road & Liasu Road)
At polling units along Governor’s Road and Council-Liasu Road in Idimu, voting ended around 2:50 p.m., with counting ongoing in the presence of party agents.
The atmosphere remained largely peaceful, although there were mild tensions at some polling units due to the late arrival of LASIEC officials.
Voter turnout here was also significantly lower than seen during general elections, a trend consistent across several LGAs today.
Also, Voting has officially concluded in Obalende, Ije, Dodan Barracks, and surrounding areas within Eti-Osa Local Government Area, as the Lagos State Local Government elections move into the collation phase.
According to reports from Radio Nigeria correspondents, the voting process was peaceful and orderly, with electoral officers, party agents, and security operatives ensuring smooth conduct throughout the day.
Vote counting has now commenced across multiple polling units, as residents and political stakeholders wait anxiously for the results.
