Troops Reject N13.7m Bribe, Arrest Terror Suspects in Plateau – DHQ

‎The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Safe Haven have rejected a N13.7 million bribe offered by suspected terrorists during a military operation along the Jos–Sanga Road in Plateau State.

‎Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Markus Kangye, made the disclosure on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on ongoing military operations across the country.

‎According to Kangye, the troops had responded to a distress call and intercepted two terror suspects who attempted to offer the bribe in exchange for their freedom.

The soldiers declined the offer, arrested the suspects, and recovered a vehicle, weapons, ammunition, and the cash.

‎He said the operation formed part of broader security efforts across Plateau and Kaduna States, including Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs in Kaduna.

‎During the operations, troops engaged and neutralised some extremists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims. Weapons, motorcycles, vehicles, and illicit drugs were also recovered.

‎Kangye noted that seven additional suspects were apprehended during routine patrols in Barkin Ladi and Jos South in Plateau, as well as Wamba and Sanga LGAs in Nasarawa and Kaduna States.

‎The Defence spokesperson commended the troops for their bravery, professionalism, and integrity, particularly for resisting the bribe attempt.

‎He urged continued support from Nigerians and the media, stressing that public cooperation is essential to the success of ongoing security operations.

‎“We will continue to provide timely updates and maintain transparency in all our engagements,” Kangye assured.
