The Lagos State government has trained another one hundred women in Surulere Council on financial literacy to make them self reliant and boost their socio economic activities
This is part of the state government’s commitment through the office of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, in partnership with Human Capital Development in building inclusion and financial capacity of women in rural communities.
At the event at Small London Community in Masha area of Surulere, Special Adviser to the Governor on SDG, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, represented by Mr Idris Balogun, said the capacity building was to ensure that women in hard to reach areas of Lagos have access to digital and financial services.
“We are here as part of the human capital project to promote financial literacy and inclusiveness for women in hard-to-reach communities”.
“We need to build something sustainable because they need to have that digital inclusion access, our able Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mandated that no one is left behind.
“That is why we have partnered with those who are in charge of finances; they will teach them how to grow, save and invest their money,” he said.
Addressing the women, representatives of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency and National Identity Management Commission, spoke on the importance of being captured in the state and country’s database for effective planning and development.
Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Mr Bamidele Yusuf, , who was represented by Mr Shaka Oluwa, a counsellor elect in Ward G2 in the council commended the Lagos State Government for the initiative.
Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the state government for bringing innovative ideas to them in their neighborhood which they promised to leverage on for economic gains and financial independence.
“I came because I wanted to register for LASRRA and to open an Opay account for efficiency, I don’t have time to always go to the bank because of long queues, my time is precious,” she said.
” I have never had an account number, I’m looking forward to having one,” she said.
The financial literacy workshop had taken place in thirteen Council areas of the state while efforts are ongoing to reach the remaining seven Councils including Agege, Ikorodu and Eti-Osa before the end of next month.
