The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has congratulated Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda on his emergence as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging him to build a more united and formidable party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda was unanimously elected on Thursday during the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja. The session was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, and other key stakeholders.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola, Speaker Obasa described Prof. Yilwatda as a highly qualified leader whose vast experience in governance and digital innovation would serve the APC well in its next chapter.
“Professor Yilwatda is not only a scholar but a seasoned technocrat whose contributions to public service and Nigeria’s digital transformation are well documented,” Obasa said.
He highlighted the chairman’s previous roles as Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, as well as a consultant to international development agencies such as the European Union, UNICEF, and the World Bank.
Obasa also referenced Yilwatda’s distinguished service as a Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and his most recent role as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
“Prof. Yilwatda’s commitment to reforming public service through technology aligns with the APC’s vision for sustainable national development,” the Speaker stated.
“I have full confidence that his technocratic and political insight will reposition the APC for greater cohesion, grassroots appeal, and electoral success.”
Speaker Obasa emphasized the importance of unity within the ruling party and called on members nationwide to rally behind Yilwatda’s leadership as the APC charts its course toward the 2027 elections.
