AI Must Be a Tool of Inclusion, Not Replacement, says CILT IVP

The International Vice President, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and Chairman of the CILT Africa Forum, Alhaji Jibril Ibrahim, says, the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reshaping the logistics and transport sector particularly for women is huge.

Addressing a packed audience of professionals in the transport sector and experts, at the 13th Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) Nigeria Day held in Lagos, Alhaji Ibrahim praised this year’s theme: “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Women’s Empowerment for Effective Business Operations”, as both timely and necessary, given the pace at which technology is redefining global industries.

“Artificial Intelligence is not just a buzzword. It’s a catalyst for inclusivity, efficiency, and sustainable growth. But for AI to truly revolutionize our sector, it must serve people especially women not replace them.”

He emphasized that AI technologies such as predictive analytics, intelligent routing, and automated customer service are already optimizing logistics operations around the world.

Yet, he warned, without deliberate efforts to ensure gender inclusivity in access to these tools, the benefits could deepen existing inequalities rather than dismantle them.

“AI can predict a truck breakdown before it happens or arrange pallets with robotic precision,” he noted.

“But it’s the human element especially the women in logistics juggling endless tasks who turn those predictions into real-world results. No algorithm can replicate that.”

According to him, the future of logistics lies not only in automation but in how well industries prepare women to lead in AI-integrated environments.

“Women must be equipped with digital literacy, data-driven decision-making capabilities, and leadership opportunities. Only then can AI be a true tool for empowerment.”

Calling for urgent action, he advocated equitable access to AI education across Africa, the development of solutions tailored to workplace challenges faced by women, and increased representation of women in AI policymaking.

“We must ensure AI policies are guided by ethics, gender sensitivity, and a vision of inclusive growth”.

The CILT International Vice President, also lauded WiLAT Nigeria for its consistent leadership in pushing boundaries and inspiring transformation across the continent.

“WiLAT Nigeria is not just celebrating progress today, it is shaping the future. As AI continues to evolve, it is women like those in this room who will define how far we go and how fast we get there.”

On a hopeful note, Alhaji Ibrahim said, “Let AI handle the paperwork and the pallet stacks. Let women handle the innovation, the leadership, and the vision. And may today be the spark that pushes our industry into a future where both technology and talent thrive together.”
