President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 84th birthday, describing him as a visionary leader whose reforms and infrastructural strides remain pivotal to Nigeria’s development journey.
In a goodwill message, President Bola Tinubu celebrated Babangida’s eight years in office, recalling landmark achievements such as the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge, the liberalisation of Nigeria’s economy, and the establishment of key national institutions, including the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
He also praised Babangida’s role in relocating the Federal Capital to Abuja.
The President lauded Babangida’s military career and sacrifices, praying to Almighty Allah to grant him many more years of health, wisdom, and service to the nation.
Also paying tribute, former President Goodluck Jonathan visited IBB in Minna, Niger State, and described him as “one of Nigeria’s finest and most committed leaders.”
Jonathan hailed Babangida’s enduring commitment to national unity and governance, noting that his home remains a rallying point for Nigerians from all walks of life.
Similarly, former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, David Mark, extolled the octogenarian as a patriot and elder statesman.
In his words, Babangida “stands as a living monument to courage, service, and honour” at 84.
