The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched the online pre-registration of voters, kicking off the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement shared on its official X handle, INEC urged eligible Nigerians to visit www.cvr.inecnigeria.org to begin the process.
The portal allows prospective voters—particularly first-time registrants—to input their personal details, select preferred polling units, and schedule appointments for physical verification.
The commission explained that applicants can also use the platform to transfer their voting locations, request replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal information.
According to INEC, in-person registration will officially commence on August 25, 2025, across all 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices.
The exercise will later expand to other registration centres depending on security assessments and logistical considerations.
INEC emphasized that the CVR is open to all Nigerians aged 18 and above, warning against multiple registrations, which attract legal penalties.
The commission encouraged eligible citizens to seize the opportunity, stressing that voter registration is vital for inclusive participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The CVR exercise will run for several months, after which INEC will publish a preliminary register for public scrutiny before finalizing the official voters’ list for the 2027 polls.
