The Federal Government has commenced a nationwide training programme to equip Nigerian youths with skills in waste recycling and energy conversion, helping them transform waste into wealth.
Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, unveiled the initiative tagged Waste to Wealth at its launch in Abuja.
He said the programme is designed to empower young people with jobs, education, and livelihood opportunities while promoting climate-smart, eco-friendly solutions.
According to the Minister, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, curb flooding, protect the environment, and drive Nigeria’s socio-economic development through sustainable practices.
Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, stressed that effective waste management offers multiple benefits, including improved health, stronger agriculture, and new economic opportunities.
Other stakeholders, including the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, described the initiative as timely and pledged full support to ensure its success.
The Waste to Wealth programme, implemented in partnership with non-governmental organizations, reflects government’s commitment to empowering youths while advancing Nigeria’s transition to a circular economy.
