2027 Deal? Tinubu Trades Roads for South-East Votes

President Bola Tinubu is stepping up efforts to woo South-East voters ahead of the 2027 general election, hinging his re-election bid on key infrastructure projects in the region.

Represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, at the golden jubilee of Eze E.C. Okeke in Owerri, Tinubu urged the region to support his second-term ambition, citing ongoing projects such as the Onitsha-Aba, Owerri-Aba, Enugu-Abakaliki, and Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Abuja road contracts.

Umahi, in a statement by his media aide, Uchenna Orji, said the President remains committed to “inclusive economic prosperity for all Nigerians” and called on the South-East to reciprocate.

Meanwhile, the Chidi Ibe-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said no Igbo politician would contest the presidency in 2027, noting that the region’s best shot at the office lies in 2035 through the APC, with Umahi tipped as a frontrunner.

Also, the Arogbo Ijaws declared full support for Tinubu’s re-election, vowing to mobilise through Tompolo’s grassroots campaign network in the Niger Delta.
