Lagos, Guangxi Set To Explore Economic Collaboration

The young population strength of Lagos can be a catalyst for the State to becoming a leading city globally in tourism, transportation and infrastructure.

The Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, Mr. Zhang Xiaoqin, stated this when he led a delegation to the Lagos State Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking through an interpreter, Mr. Xiaoqin highlighted the recent partnerships between Nigeria and China in transportation and infrastructural development.

“We are looking forward to enhance collaboration in the area of trade, economy and tourism.

We hope you will provide more care for the Chinese citizens in Lagos”Xiaoqin statedHe said Guangxi, a coastal city like Lagos, is keen to establish concrete agreements to boost the economies of both cities, including legislative collaboration to enhance leadership and governance.

Welcoming the delegation, Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and China, while affirming Lagos’s commitment to collaborating with ambitious cities on viable tourism ideas to help the state reach its desired status.

Honourable Obasa described Lagos as a hub for productive investment and a tourism destination, noting the state’s openness to innovations from cities with mutual development goals.

Obasa said that the state has a boyant economy with over 20 million citizens, saying that Lagos is ready for more foreign investments.

The Speaker explained that the state is the best destination for investment in Africa, stating that Lagos is ready for collaboration that would continue to enhance the economy.

Obasa, who acknowledged the existing collaboration between Lagos and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in the construction and operation of the Red and Blue line, said the Lagos Assembly is ready to work with them.

He stated that the Assembly is ready to collaborate in the area of legislation and exchange of ideas for good governance.

He highlighted similarities between Guangxi and Lagos, including their status as busy maritime destinations and centers for trade and culture.

The delegation included members of the Guangxi People’s Congress, diplomatic officers, and Chinese Consul General to Nigeria, Ms. Yan Yuqing.
