Osun, Lagos Top as Over 1.3 Million Nigerians Complete Voter Registration

‎…Report Strong Turnout in First Week of CVR

‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 1,379,342 Nigerians successfully completed their online pre-registration within the first week of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, held between August 18 and 24, 2025.

‎This was contained in the CVR State Pre-Registration Report released on Monday by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.

Osun, Lagos Lead in Numbers

‎Osun State emerged with the highest number of pre-registrants, recording 393,269 entries, representing 28.51 percent of the total.

‎Lagos followed with 222,205 registrations (16.11 percent), while Ogun came third with 132,823 (9.63 percent).

‎The Federal Capital Territory also had a strong showing with 107,682 pre-registrations, accounting for 7.81 percent.

‎Other notable figures include Oyo with 66,951, Kaduna with 61,592, and Kogi with 58,546 registrants.

Regional Performance Breakdown

South-South: Delta recorded 24,421 registrants, Rivers 11,314, and Akwa Ibom 12,373. Edo, Ondo, Cross River, and Bayelsa had lower numbers, ranging between 2,875 and 4,638.

North-East: Borno led the region with 21,045, followed by Bauchi with 13,066. Yobe stood out with 34,888, while Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe posted relatively low figures.

North-West: Kaduna topped with 61,592, while Kebbi impressed with 35,009. Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara all recorded lower figures.

North-Central: Niger registered 24,818, Nasarawa 11,555, Plateau 6,586, Benue 7,305, and Kogi 58,546.

South-East: The zone had the lowest participation. Ebonyi recorded only 261 registrants, the lowest nationwide, while Enugu, Imo, and Abia posted fewer than 800 each.

Physical Registration Phase Begins

‎INEC confirmed that the physical phase of the CVR commenced on Monday across the country.

‎Both new applicants and online pre-registrants are required to visit designated INEC centres for biometric capturing and completion of the process.


‎The exercise will last for one year, ending on August 30, 2026.


‎Registration is available at 811 centres nationwide, including all 774 Local Government offices.

‎Updates of personal details

‎INEC warned against double or multiple registrations, describing it as illegal.

Accessibility for All Nigerians

‎The commission assured that arrangements have been made to ensure accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and vulnerable groups.

‎INEC’s online portal (www.cvr.inecnigeria.org) also offers services including PVC status checks and location of registration centres.

Oyo Government Mobilises Residents

‎Meanwhile, the Oyo State government has urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing CVR.

‎The Director-General of the State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, called on citizens to register in large numbers ahead of the next general elections.

‎He advised fresh applicants, as well as those seeking transfers or replacements, to visit the INEC portal to begin their registration process.
