The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has condemned the recent assault on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) at the Mile 2 axis, warning that those behind the attack will face the full weight of the law.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement issued in Lagos, stressing that the assault on VIO officials performing their lawful duties was unacceptable and would not go unpunished.
He noted that the VIOs are legally empowered agents of the state, entrusted with the critical responsibility of enforcing road safety regulations and safeguarding lives across Lagos.
Mr. Osiyemi expressed solidarity with the injured officers and assured all personnel of the government’s unwavering commitment to their safety, dignity, and protection while on duty.
He further reaffirmed that the ministry will continue to defend its officers and contain criminal elements attempting to intimidate or obstruct them from carrying out their lawful responsibilities.
