The Lagos State Government is making significant strides towards a sustainable future, announcing plans to aggressively pursue clean energy initiatives and other competitive ventures in the energy sector.
This move marks a major step in the state’s transition to a gas-based economy.
Deputy Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Honourable. Mojisola Meranda, disclosed this during a public hearing for a law to establish the “Ibile Energy Corporation” at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja.
Honourable. Meranda emphasized the importance of stakeholder input in renewable energy and other sector activities, assuring that resident safety would be prioritized.
The lawmaker highlighted energy’s role as a key driver of modern human activities, stressing the need for participatory governance to meet growing energy demands.
Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Lawmaker representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun 2, Mr. Sabur Oluwa, noted that the hearing aimed to assess the bill’s strengths, threats, and opportunities, and examine its governance framework.
The Committee Chairman expressed optimism that the bill would create jobs and stimulate investment.
Managing Director of Ibile Oil and Gas, Mrs. Doyin Akinyanju, stated that the “Ibile Energy Corporation bill 2025” would provide opportunities for sustainable, clean, and reliable energy. Stakeholders.
Stakeholders at the hearing called for a balance in administration, as well as managed relationship with stakeholders in the environment, to avoid the repeat of agitations in oil and gas sites in other parts of the country.
The Corporation among others, is expected to engage in all oil and gas upstream activities, including exploration, drilling and production of crude oil and natural gas in Nigeria and internationally; optimise the benefits of the petroleum policies of the State and Federal Government; as well as liaise with Federal Government agencies, private and multinational companies to deliver petroleum products to the State.
