The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has appealed to residents to take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to register, update, or transfer their voter information.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the Commission said active participation in the exercise is crucial to strengthening democracy and ensuring that every eligible Lagosian has the opportunity to vote in future elections.
LASIEC noted that voter registration is the first step toward meaningful participation in governance, adding that the CVR provides residents who recently turned 18, relocated, or need corrections on their voter details the chance to update their records.
The Commission urged Lagos residents not to wait until election periods before seeking registration, stressing that civic responsibility begins with securing a valid voter’s card.
It also called on community leaders, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to support the mobilisation drive, ensuring that no eligible resident is left out of the process.
“Democracy thrives when citizens are actively involved in the electoral process. We encourage Lagosians to take this exercise seriously and ensure their voices are heard through their votes,” LASIEC stated.
