U.S Donates $32.5m to Feed Displaced Nigerians

The United States Government has pledged $32.5 million to support the World Food Programme (WFP) in providing food and nutrition assistance to internally displaced persons in Nigeria’s conflict-hit North-East and North-West.

The fund will enable WFP to reach over 764,000 vulnerable people, including 41,569 pregnant and breastfeeding women and 43,235 children, through electronic food vouchers and nutrition top-ups.

The U.S. mission in Nigeria said the intervention aims to save lives and ease the suffering of vulnerable groups, especially women and children.

This comes as WFP recently warned it may suspend aid for 1.3 million people in North-East Nigeria due to a $130 million funding gap.
