500 Rivers Pupils Get Solar Learning Boost

In celebration of World Literacy Day 2025, over 500 pupils in Rivers State have been empowered with solar-powered Sun Books tablets through a literacy initiative launched by Heirs Energies Limited in partnership with the World Literacy Foundation (WLF).

The pupils, drawn from Central State Primary School, Omuohia-Igwuruta and Umuebulu Primary School, Umuebulu—both host communities of Heirs Energies’ OML 17 will now have access to curriculum-aligned content and interactive learning modules on the digital devices.

To ensure sustainability, solar panels will also be installed in the schools, guaranteeing steady electricity for classrooms and learning devices.

Teachers in the pilot schools are set to undergo specialized training to integrate digital literacy into classroom instruction.

The Sun Books programme, first piloted in Uganda, has already impacted thousands of children across Africa, equipping students and teachers with offline-first learning tools tailored for low-infrastructure communities.

Reaffirming the company’s long-term vision, Heirs Energies CEO, Osa Igiehon, said:

“Our investment in literacy is an investment in the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers. With Sun Books, we are empowering children to dream beyond their circumstances and making learning engaging and inclusive.”

This initiative, he added, is a reflection of the company’s Africapitalism philosophy—creating social good while driving economic value.
