The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has announced the abolition of its long-standing policy that eliminated candidates from training after three unsuccessful attempts at the Council’s professional examinations.
In a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. Ndagi Alhassan, the Council disclosed that moving forward, candidates who fail any part of the professional examination will only be required to resit the specific section until they achieve a pass mark.
According to the NMCN, the reform is designed to align nursing education in Nigeria with global best practices, shifting from an elimination-based system to a supportive, student-centered approach.
The Council directed immediate implementation of the new policy and urged heads of institutions to adopt effective strategies to help all students succeed particularly those who may require additional support, time, and guidance to improve their performance.
