Passenger Welfare in Focus as NCAA Calls Airlines to Abuja Meeting

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned all domestic airlines to a crucial meeting in Abuja tomorrow, Wednesday, to address pressing issues affecting the country’s air transport sector.

According to the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, the high-level talks will focus on strengthening passenger protection and improving overall travel experience in Nigeria.

Matters expected to dominate the discussions include the growing incidents of unruly passenger behaviour, lingering refund and compensation complaints, and the enforcement of safety regulations such as mandatory phone switch-off during flights.

The meeting will also explore innovations in passenger service, including the planned introduction of RFID bag tags and advanced flight monitoring technologies aimed at boosting efficiency and security.

NCAA further noted that measures to guarantee the safety and welfare of cabin crew, alongside improved passenger-handling protocols, will be placed on the front burner.

Mr. Achimugu added that the deliberations would be streamed live on the Authority’s official social media platforms, X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, to allow the public follow developments as they unfold.
