Nigeria has taken a major step toward clean mobility and energy access with the introduction of electric tricycles developed by Janus Cleantech Solution Limited.
The vehicles double as portable power sources for households and small businesses.
The initiative, launched by Janus Cleantech, combines passenger and cargo tricycles with swappable lithium batteries and solar-powered charging hubs, creating what developers describe as “micro-grids on wheels.”
Built to withstand rough roads, the vehicles are designed to ease the high transport costs faced by millions of Keke operators, while also tackling unreliable electricity supply that still affects more than 80 million people.
Each deployment is expected to generate jobs, support women and youth cooperatives, boost small businesses, and cut carbon emissions.
The company also plans to expand into full local manufacturing of tricycles and batteries within the next decade, with a long-term vision of powering millions of African households and businesses sustainably.
