In commemoration of the 2025 Press week, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, chapel in collaboration with Lions Club International District 404B4 has organised a fitness walk for its staff members.
Speaking at the event at Iganmu, during the “NUJ-NAN Walk for Fitness” with the theme, “Strive Towards a Healthier You”, Head NAN Lagos Office and Chairman NUJ Lagos Council, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, who noted that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce, said NUJ in collaboration with Lion’s Club incorporates health walk into it’s programmes for the press week as a way of knowing the health status of its workers.
Comrade Ajayi said NUJ has keyed into the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, provided by the government to facilitate the health of its workers thereby getting maximum results.
Assistant Editor-in-Chief News Agency of Nigeria and Chairperson, Organising Committee NUJ-NAN Lagos, 2025 Media Week, Mrs Vivian Ihechu, who noted that Journalism work is a demanding work where workers rarely have time for medical check ups urged staff to avail themselves and make use of the opportunity of having their health status checked.
Mrs Ihechu said the programme is a week long event which has activities lined up for each day and lots of awards to the attendees.
District Governor Lions International District 404B4, Pharmacist Adebowale Afolayan, in his contribution said many people live under the assumption of been healthy but opportunity like the collaboration avails them opportunity to know the real state of their health through screening and get advise on how on management especially for non-communicable diseases like Diabetes and High Blood Pressure plus .
Director General Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu, who was represented by Director of Sports Mr Nunayon Travih,while commending the vital role the media play in terms of information dissemination, investigation and education of the public, said it becomes very important there work is done in good health hence the need for the fitness walk and check up.
The event also has in attendance other agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA
