Fire gutted some keeklamps shops at Bariga market in the early hours of today, October 1 at about half past four o’clock this morning.
In a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained as at the time of the report.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu noted that information received at the incident scene revealed that the fire started from one of the shops and quickly spread to others shops because the keeklamps shops were supported and partitioned by wooden frameworks.

He stated that collaborative efforts of all emergency responders were deployed to contain and prevent spreading of the fire to other parts of the market.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary said the fire affected twenty-six keeklamps shops within the market with properties worth millions of naira lost to the fire.
However, he said no life was lost in the inferno, not any injuries recorded.
First responders at the scene included LASEMA, LRU Paramedics, Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police as the Fire has been extinguished with dampening down completed.
